Want to start a family but over 40? Manchester Fertility specialises in IVF for older couples and older women.

With UK donor eggs immediately available and a specialist team that understands the unique challenges of conception and pregnancy for older women, we’ll find the best solution for a safe pregnancy and healthy baby.

You don’t even need to be in a relationship – we have UK donor sperm as well as UK donor eggs ready now, to help you conceive.

Here’s what you need to know about IVF for the over 40s and older couples:

Fertility and pregnancy in your 40s

Just because you’re over 40 it doesn’t mean you can’t have a family – even if you’ve menopausal or have gone through the menopause. We help many women in their 40s successfully conceive, either using own eggs or using donor eggs from our donor programme.

IVF success rates in the over 40s are generally low because egg quality has declined with age. It’s why many women – particularly aged 44 and above – opt for donor eggs. When you use donor eggs, you’re using the eggs of a much younger woman. All Manchester Fertility egg donors are aged 18-35.

Treatment options: IVF using own eggs

You may assume that your only option is to use donor eggs if you’re in your 40s, but when it comes to older women, it’s important to have an individualised, bespoke approach.

It may still be possible to have IVF using own eggs dependent upon your initial fertility investigations, your age and other factors.

We’ll always be realistic and transparent with you, and make sure that you’re fully aware of your likely chances of success using own eggs compared to donor eggs, so you can make an informed decision.

IVF using own eggs: Genetic testing

Advanced maternal age increases the risk of a pregnancy affected by chromosome abnormalities. At Manchester Fertility we offer the latest genetic testing techniques to help older women conceive.

Preimplantation Genetic Screening assesses chromosome numbers in developing embryos, so only those embryos with correct chromosome numbers are chosen for transfer, increasing your chance of pregnancy and live birth.

IVF with donor eggs

If treatment with donor eggs gives you the best chance of a baby, you don’t need to worry about joining a waiting list at Manchester Fertility. We have both fresh and frozen UK donor eggs ready now.

You’ll be given a choice of UK egg donors that match your preferences and detailed donor profiles to help you choose, supported by our dedicated Donation Team.

Counselling support

Counselling is a valued and essential part of fertility treatment. Counselling with our experienced team is automatically included in treatment for all patients and is mandatory if you’re using donor eggs, due to the emotions and implications of using an egg donor to conceive.

Funding IVF in your 40s

We offer a number of different funding options for fertility treatment in your 40s using donor eggs or own eggs. Options include traditional fees; Access Fertility Donor Eggs Refund plan; Access Fertility Multi-Cycle and Manchester Fertility’s new Frozen Donor Eggs Multi-Cycle package.

We’ll take you through any available funding options after your initial fertility consultation, if it’s something you’d like to consider.
