Our fertility assessments are for patients who have some knowledge about their fertility status, who may have had a pregnancy, or have had confirmation that fertility treatment would be advised.

Involving a series of simple tests and a consultation with a doctor, a fertility check will assess your current fertility status identifying any factors affecting your ability to conceive and providing insight into potential treatment options.

A fertility assessment is available for couples and individuals without a GP referral. Just call our team, make an appointment or book online.

We offer fertility examination to single patients, heterosexual couples, and same-sex couples without a GP referral. We also offer a male fertility review. You may wish to have a fertility check if:

You want some insight into your fertility before you start trying for a baby
You've been trying for a baby without success and want to know if you need fertility treatment
You want to know if you have any current fertility issues that may mean you need treatment
You have a complex fertility history or medical issues that have prevented natural conception

AMH Blood Test

A blood test will check your Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) level. Your AMH gives us a good indication of how many eggs you have remaining, otherwise known as your ovarian reserve. Your AMH test can be performed at any time in your menstrual cycle.

If your AMH is low, it does not mean that you cannot conceive naturally. However, it may be advisable to consider trying for a baby sooner rather than later. For IVF, your AMH tells us how you may respond to ovarian stimulation and the best protocol to use to ensure you have eggs for treatment.

Pelvic Ultrasound Scan

We perform an ultrasound scan of your womb to check your ovaries and uterus to ensure that there are no cysts, fibroids or polyps that could impact your chance of conceiving, as well as evaluate your antral follicle count to assess your ovarian reserve.

An ultrasound scan is painless and gives us accurate and highly detailed information about your reproductive health. The ideal time to have an ultrasound scan is when you are not actively bleeding; this ensures that our sonographers have visualisation of the uterine cavity.

Antral Follicle Count

Conducted via a transvaginal ultrasound early in your menstrual cycle, the antral follicle count assesses your ovarian reserve and predicts your response to fertility treatments.

Health Check

We check your height and weight to measure your BMI. A BMI that is too high or too low can affect your fertility and reduce your chance of getting pregnant. The BMI limit for fertility treatment at Manchester Fertility is 35. We will advise you whether you should raise or lower your BMI to improve your chances of conception.

Blood Pressure

We will monitor your blood pressure as it can impacts hormonal balance, ovulation, and overall reproductive health. High blood pressure can lead to pregnancy complications, emphasising the need for regular monitoring and lifestyle management, such as a balanced diet and exercise.

50 Minute Consultation

Our female fertility check includes a 50-minute consultation with one of our experts consultant, where you'll discuss the results of your fertility tests.

You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any recommendations the consultants have, whether that's further diagnostic tests, treatments, or lifestyle changes that could improve your fertility.

If appropriate, we can perform a HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo-Contrast-Sonography), but this is not part of the fertility MOT and will cost £580. HyCoSy is a non-invasive transvaginal ultrasound technique which assesses the patency of your fallopian tubes, which must be clear of blockages to conceive. HyCoSy involves injecting a contrast fluid into the uterine cavity through the cervix, which will indicate if there are any blockages or other changes in the womb, such as polyps or fibroids.

Several reasons, including infections, previous surgery, and scar tissue, can cause blocked fallopian tubes.

Blocked tubes do not typically show any symptoms, and as such, most women are unaware of a problem until they have difficulty conceiving.

Semen Analysis

We will perform a comprehensive semen analysis using a sample of your sperm to assess its fertility potential. This includes evaluating your sperm count, shape (morphology), movement (motility), semen volume, and pH levels (which can indicate potential infections or hormonal imbalances).

Each of these factors plays a crucial role in determining sperm health and the ability to conceive.

Testicular Ultrasound Scan

A testicular ultrasound scan is a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create detailed images of the testicles and surrounding tissues in the scrotum. It helps assess the structure and detect abnormalities in the testicles, such as lumps or masses, fluid accumulation, infections, or testicular torsion.

The scan is painless, safe, and typically done to investigate symptoms like swelling, pain, or lumps in the testicles.

Hormone Blood Tests

We will perform hormone blood tests to check the hormone levels responsible for sperm productions. These include FSH, LH, and testosterone.

Health Check

We will check your height and weight to measure your BMI. Both underweight and overweight individuals can experience hormonal imbalances that affect sperm quality. Achieving a healthy BMI can improve your sperm health.

Blood Pressure

We will monitor your blood pressure as high blood pressure can negatively impact sperm quality, including count and motility, and disrupt hormonal balance. Maintaining healthy blood pressure through a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol can improve reproductive health.

30 Minute Consultation

Our male fertility check includes a 30-minute consultation with a male reproductive health consultant, where you'll discuss the results of your fertility tests, including key elements of male reproductive health, such as sperm quality, hormone levels, and possible factors affecting your fertility.

All our fertility assessment packages include a thorough analysis of your results with a doctor or consultant. Our experts will discuss the options available to you based on their analysis of your fertility status. They will recommend the best course of action based on your particular circumstances and may also discuss other contributing factors such as your age, BMI, and lifestyle.

Fertility Assessment (Single Female)

At Manchester Fertility a Fertility Assessment for a single female costs £390.

As part of our fertility assessment, female patients, or patients assigned female at birth (AFAB), will undergo a series of tests and scans, including:

AMH blood test

Height, weight & BMI

Fertility Assessment (Heterosexual Couple)

Male Fertility Assessment (Single Male)

At Manchester Fertility a fertility review for a single male patient costs £715. The package includes everything you need to gain a complete understanding of your current fertility so that you can plan for the future.

Blood Tests

Ultrasound Scans

We also offer reassurance pregnancy scans at 7-10 weeks and 10-17 weeks.
