The Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA)

Manchester Fertility is regulated by the HFEA, The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

The HFEA is the UK Government’s independent regulator overseeing all fertility treatment, sperm and egg donation and research. Established in August 1991, it is your reassurance of a safe journey to pregnancy if you need help to conceive.

The HFEA Code of Practice sets out the rules by which the HFEA regulates all UK fertility clinics. It sets the standard for how you can expect to be treated, and ensures clinics meet all their legal requirements in accordance with legislation including the Human Fertilisation and Embryology (HFE) Act 1990. The Code of Practice is regularly reviewed and updated.

As a licensed clinic we are regularly inspected by the HFEA to check we meet its strict Code of Practice standards, ensuring we continuously operate to the highest standards, offering the best quality care to our patients.

Everything from our laboratory equipment to our procedures is examined. If any improvements are needed, these are advised. Inspectors speak to our patients to get feedback, which helps to determine our official HFEA inspection rating.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC)

We are licenced by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. Licencesed UK fertility clinics are not be inspected by the CQC as the HFEA fulfils that role now and inspects all of the CQC standards.
