I am a 52 year old woman in excellent health. In November 2011, I underwent donor egg blastocyst transfer IVF in the Czech Republic which resulted in a twin pregnancy, but I sadly miscarried at seven weeks. In January 2012, I underwent single embryo blastocyst donor egg transfer at a London women's clinic with a negative result. My male partner and I have had all the screening tests within the past few months, which all passed. My partner and I are in the process of arranging screening tests for sperm fragmentation and sperm aneupoidy to ascertain if we also need to use a sperm donor. I am asking if your clinic considers whether or not they treat older women on a case-to-case basis and if they would consider treating me in view of the fact that I have become pregnant as a result of previous IVF treatment? As we live in the Manchester area your clinic is also convenient to access.
Read answerI will be 44 next week and do not have any children. I conceived after two months of trying in October 2010 but miscarried at 6 weeks. Unfortunately my marriage only lasted a year and so I would need to use doner sperm. I am keen on using my own eggs. I am fit and heathy and my cycle length is between 25 and 29 days. Would either IUI or IVF be an option for me?
Read answerDear Professor Brian, I recently turned 45 years old and have been trying to conceive for almost 3 years. I have miscarried twice in that time. My husband is 35 years old and already has a child. I have had various tests and everything is okay. We are now thinking of going down the IVF route, but I read the success rates are so low with my own eggs due to quantity left and their quality. I am not happy to use donor eggs, so was wondering if there is any point starting the IVF treatment? I would really appreciate your frank and direct response.
Read answerI am 49 yrs old my and my husband is 37 yrs. I was sterilised (keyhole) 14yrs ago, I have a daughter of 23. Last year I was diagnosed as post-menopausal. At the time I was under a lot of stress and pressure. I had not had regular periods for over 12 months. However over the last 7 months I have started to have normal periods again regularly. We are desperate for a child and thought my chance was gone. Please can you advise us what we can do. Thank you!
Read answerHello. We have a 4 year old child and have been trying to have a sibling since the end of 2009. Last year I had a missed miscarriage at 10.5 weeks, although it was only measuring 6.5 weeks. Since then, I have started acupuncture, and have had 2 months of chemical pregnancies. What would you suggest we try next? Thank you!
Dear Dr Brian, I have been trying to conceive with my partner for 4 years we have had tests done and found that I had inter-uterine fibroids which were stopping me from conceiving. These removed 3 years ago and the doctor who removed them said that I should be able to conceive but because of my age my chances may be low. We have been trying to conceive ever since with no joy, as I am getting older have I now missed my chance of conceiving? My periods are now becoming irratic with taking longer to come or not coming at all. Please advise.
