I am 49 yrs old my and my husband is 37 yrs. I was sterilised (keyhole) 14yrs ago, I have a daughter of 23. Last year I was diagnosed as post-menopausal. At the time I was under a lot of stress and pressure. I had not had regular periods for over 12 months. However over the last 7 months I have started to have normal periods again regularly. We are desperate for a child and thought my chance was gone. Please can you advise us what we can do. Thank you!

I am sorry to say that at 49 we would not be able to offer you IVF treatment using your own eggs. We do not have any live births in patients over the age of 44 using their own eggs. It is not impossible that you could conceive on your own but it is very rare. As women go through the menopause ovarian activity is sporadic and you can start menstruating again even after a year of no periods.
