Sonographer

Jo McLaren

With a background in diagnostic radiography, Jo completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and General Medical Ultrasound at the University of Derby. She has worked as a sonographer responsible for ultrasound examinations in many fertility units, general departments and clinics across the country.

Jo chose to specialise in fertility ultrasound, as this constantly evolving meaningful field allows her to play a role in helping people achieve their dream of starting or expanding their families.

Jo's day-to-day role includes undertaking gynaecological treatment and pregnancy scans within the fertility clinic. This includes conducting transvaginal ultrasound scans to check for abnormalities, monitor follicle development, assess the response to fertility medications, and determine the viability of early pregnancies once patients have been successful in their treatment.

She enjoys collaborating with the wider team of fertility nurses and doctors, accurately recording findings to support treatment decisions, coordinating patient care, and providing emotional support.

Jo says

"I love talking the patient through the examination and explaining what I'm measuring and why - the patient interaction is the most rewarding part of my job. also feel that talking the patient through what they are seeing makes them feel informed and therefore more comfortable during such an intimate examination."
