Donor sperm

My husband has no sperm and so we are left with the option of sperm donor. I can't get my head around what type of man donates sperm. I would hope it would be someone just like my husband but with donors at an all time low I have terrible images in my mind. In your experience can you answer this question?

Although nationally there is a shortage of sperm donors, here at Manchester Fertility we have a reasonable number of sperm donors. Since the removal of anonymity in 2005/6 we noticed a change in the profile of the person donating and have found that they are slightly older, often having children themselves, and donating for far more altruistic reasons, knowing that the donor conceived children may get in touch with them in the future.

If you have treatment with sperm donation at Manchester Fertility you would be offered a choice of donor as close as possible to your desired characteristics. Each donor is asked to provide information on their physical description, occupation, interests and a Goodwill Message (intended for the offspring) which we present as a ‘Donor Profile.’ This information will help you decide which donor to choose.
