Low AMH

I recently went to a fertility specialist. My AMH was 0.8 and AFL scan showed 6. He recommended that I freeze my eggs straight away as I'm also 40 and Asian. This has blown me away a bit. Does this mean that I have very low chances?

Please note that all the answers we give are on a generic basis only, as we cannot provide more in-depth answers without access to your medical history. If you need a more detailed response, tailored to you, we would recommend a consultation with one of our Fertility Specialists for more comprehensive medical advice.

I would advise you to go ahead with IVF now if that is what you are considering. A very low AMH suggests that there is a low egg number in your ovary and egg freezing is only optimal when there are several eggs available. The reason for this is although the freeze thaw survival rate of eggs has improved dramatically over the last few years if the number of eggs to freeze is very low there is a high possibility that you could go through the whole process and not generate any embryos.
