Did you know more than 68,000 cycles of IVF are carried out every year in the UK? If you’re planning to try for a baby through IVF too, here are five things to know before you start:

1. Research the IVF process

Being informed about what’s to come can help make the IVF journey easier. Research the IVF process so you know what to expect. Always ask if there’s anything you’re not sure about – we’re always happy to help clarify and reassure.

 2. Be healthy

Being in poor health can jeopardise your chances of success before IVF even starts. Factors like BMI, smoking, alcohol and lifestyle can make a difference to IVF outcome and it matters for both men and women. So make sure you both get healthy in the months leading up to IVF.

3. Consider funding

With more couples unable to access NHS IVF, funding private IVF can be a big cause of worry. Look at any available funding options as well as traditional fees. There are different options including refund plans and multicycle plans each with their own benefits.

4. Support network

Make sure you have a good support network in place. The entire Manchester Fertility team is here to help you every step of the way but it also helps to have friends, family and even colleagues on board too.

 5. Be positive

We aim to make your IVF journey as stress free as we can, but it can be an emotional rollercoaster. Keep positive. We’re all focused on achieving the best outcome for you – a healthy pregnancy and baby – so try to relax and let us worry about it!
