Hysterectomy at 47. Can I freeze my eggs?

I am 47 years old and will have to have a hysterectomy for fibroid removal. My ovaries will not be removed. At my age, is it still possible to freeze my eggs? If so, should this be done before the surgery?

Please note that all the answers we give are on a generic basis only, as we cannot provide more in-depth answers without access to your medical history. If you need a more detailed response, tailored to you, we would recommend a consultation with one of our Fertility Specialists for more comprehensive medical advice.

We would not recommend freezing eggs at the age of 47. It is unlikely that you would produce sufficient numbers of eggs to freeze and there would be uncertainties about the quality of the eggs at your age.
