Here is some advice from our team to help you cope with the IVF journey and trying to conceive at Christmas:
- Put yourself first: Christmas is a time for giving but this does not mean you have to ignore your own needs and feelings. Take time out – you do not need to attend every event, especially if you find it hard to be around pregnant friends, family members or places where there will be lots of children around.
- Be prepared: At this time of year when family and friends get together, it is inevitable that you may face well-meaning questions about when you will be having a family, from people who don’t know about your situation. Talk to your partner beforehand and agree social strategies together on how you will respond.
- Keep positive: Christmas marks the end of the year and the beginning of a fresh start. 2019 could be the year that you do have your baby and if you are planning to start IVF in the New Year, it can a great relief to gain some control. You will be getting expert help, from people who will do everything they can to make your dream of a baby come true.
- Keep healthy: Enjoy a glass a wine or two but try to maintain your health goals for pregnancy and fertility treatment, especially if you have been working hard in recent weeks to reach a healthy BMI or have made lifestyle changes such as stopping smoking. Health and lifestyle does have significant impact on chances of pregnancy and fertility treatment success, so keep focused.
