Our laboratory has been specifically designed to provide the optimal environment for embryo development.
Using advanced air filtration, carefully controlled temperature, humidity and gas regulation, every aspect of the laboratory is designed to protect the delicate conditions needed for fertilisation and embryo culture.
Our experienced embryologists work with state-of-the-art equipment that enables them to monitor development with exceptional precision while minimising disruption to embryos throughout the IVF process. We continually invest in new technologies to ensure our patients have access to some of the most advanced fertility treatments available.
Alan Birks
Senior Embryologist / Facilities Manager
Alan is a Senior Embryologist and joined us in 1992. As part of the Embryology team Alan is responsible for egg collection, sperm preparation for treatment and also assesses embryo quality to decide if an embryo is suitable for transfer or freezing.

With a Master’s Degree in Assisted Reproductive Technology, Keith is fully experienced in the specialised techniques that ensure sperm, eggs and embryos are cultured in the best possible way for optimum quality for treatment success.

Kelly’s been caring for embryos and helping people to become parents for over 15 years. She’s worked in both the NHS and private fertility sector. Passionate about providing individual patient care, Kelly loves talking with patients to help explain how embryos are developing, keeping patients informed as they progress through treatment.

High-resolution cameras capture thousands of images as embryos develop, creating a continuous time-lapse record without the need to remove them from their carefully controlled environment.
The result is more detailed information about embryo development and additional data to help our experienced embryology team make informed decisions during treatment.
FertilAI™ – Intelligent laboratory support
FertilAI is an AI-powered fertility technology platform designed to help clinics deliver more precise, personalised, and efficient patient care.
By combining advanced artificial intelligence with clinical expertise, the platform supports physicians in optimising treatment decisions across ovulation tracking, frozen embryo transfer (FET), and IVF workflows.
iDAScore® – AI-assisted embryo assessment
Manchester Fertility uses iDAScore®, an artificial intelligence time-lapse technology that works alongside the EmbryoScope™ incubator.
Developed using hundreds of thousands of embryo development records, iDAScore analyses the complete time-lapse history of each embryo and generates an objective ranking based on developmental patterns associated with implantation potential.
Our embryologists combine this AI-generated information with their own expert clinical assessment and grading, rather than replacing human expertise.
MAGENTA™ – Personalised egg quality insights
Every fertility journey is unique, and understanding egg quality can provide valuable information when planning treatment.
MAGENTA™ uses advanced AI technology to analyse images of mature eggs collected during ICSI. Trained using more than 100,000 egg images and their associated outcomes, the technology identifies subtle features that are not visible to the human eye and generates an egg quality score for each mature egg.
VIOLET™ – Supporting egg freezing with AI
For patients choosing to preserve their fertility through egg freezing, VIOLET™ provides personalised information about the eggs collected during treatment.
Using the same advanced AI technology as MAGENTA™, VIOLET™ analyses images of mature eggs to generate individual egg quality scores and provides a personalised report that estimates the potential for future embryo development and live birth outcome.
These additional insights can help patients better understand the outcome of their egg freezing cycle and support informed decisions about whether further egg freezing treatment may be beneficial.
UV Smart D45™ — safer, faster ultrasound probe disinfection
Our UV Smart D45 uses UV-C light to provide fast, automated high-level disinfection of ultrasound probes, helping to support a safer and more efficient clinical environment.
With a rapid 75-second cycle, the D45 enables a smoother transition between patients while providing reassurance that probes are disinfected correctly every time, supported by an easy-to-use patient audit trail.
By removing the need for chemical disinfectants and reducing wasteful consumables, the technology supports a safer, more sustainable approach to clinical care, without compromising on clinical confidence.
