There are many reasons why someone may find that they need our help to have a baby. But typically the most common reasons why you need infertility treatment or assistance are:

Ovulatory problems:If you have problems with ovulation - so you aren’t ovulating, or are very irregular - then you may need our help to conceive. Ovulatory issues can be treated with something as simple asinduction of ovulation, where we use drugs to stimulate ovulation and then you either have intercourse as normal, or we timeintrauterine insemination (IUI),where your partner’s sperm is inserted directly into your uterus, to happen at the time you are ovulating.

Fallopian tube blockages:Sometimes the reason you can’t conceive is because your fallopian tubes are blocked. This can be caused by a number of reasons, but typically previous infection, which has led to scar tissue, or conditions such as endometriosis, can cause your tubes to become blocked. In this instance, then we would recommendIVF, it effectively bypasses the need for fallopian tubes by fertilising your eggs with your partner’s sperm in our laboratory.

Male fertility problems:Male infertility is very common - in fact we estimate that it’s the main cause of infertility in around a third of the cases we treat. Male fertility problems don’t tend to come to light until you start trying to have a baby. Typical male fertility issues relate to sperm count, sperm motility or sperm abnormality. Dependent upon the diagnosis, we can treat male infertility issues either by IVF or ICSI, where a single healthy sperm is selected by our embryologist and then injected directly into the egg to fertilise it.

At Manchester Fertility we tailor our treatments to suit your individual circumstances and diagnosis. We do not promote or recommend ‘experimental’ treatments, we only offer proven, evidence-based treatments to help you have a baby.
