IVF has helped many couples with fertility problems to have children, but how likely is it to work for you?

IVF success rates vary dependent upon your age, and the exact cause of your infertility. Many infertility clinics often give you a snapshot of their success rates, but make sure if you’re researching clinics that you ask for results for your specific age group.

Crucially, you should also ask to see the not just the pregnancy rate at the clinic for your age, but the live birth rate. Any results you see should also be verified by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

At Manchester Fertility, we have excellent live birth results per cycle started of IVF/ICSI using the patient’s own eggs, particularly in the older age group:

  • Age 35 and under – 30.6%
  • Age 35 – 37 – 21.6%
  • Age 38 – 39 – 26.6%
  • Age 40-42 – 12.2%

We also have strong results in the live birth rate by the number of embryos transferred:

  • Age 35 and under – 20.7%
  • Age 35 – 37 – 15.8%
  • Age 38-39 – 17.9%
  • Age 40-42 – 8.7%

Sometimes clinics will report their results differently – some will publicise only the data that gives them the best results, regardless of age and treatment – so make sure when you compare clinic results that you do so on an exact like-for-like basis.

Dependent upon the cause of your infertility, it’s important to remember that generally the earlier you start IVF treatment, the better chance of success. IVF isn’t designed to allow otherwise healthy couples to delay having children – it’s not a fail-safe back up. IVF doesn’t always work, no matter which fertility clinic you go to.

But at Manchester Fertility we’re committed to helping you on your infertility journey every step of the way. Our dedication to researching and finding new methods of overcoming infertility has helped many couples over the years achieve the family they thought was impossible.

We’ll always be open and honest with you about what will give you the best chance of success. To us, you’re not just a patient. When you start your treatment with us, you become part of the Manchester Fertility’ family.
