Your pathway to parenthood is unique, as is how you feel about starting your family through fertility treatment. Some people will always know they need treatment, such as same-sex couples, others may be considering treatment after struggling to conceive. However you feel about accessing treatment, our team is here to help you prioritise your mental health and well-being during your fertility journey.

National Fertility Awareness Week – Fertility In Mind

The theme for this year's National Fertility Awareness Week is Fertility in Mind, and Fertility Network UK is raising awareness of the impact that fertility issues can have on the mental health and well-being of those going through treatment. Many people in the UK will need assistance to conceive, and while there should be no stigma attached to asking for help, some hesitation can still exist. However, treatment is more commonplace than people realise, according to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), there are over 70,000 fertility treatments performed annually in the UK. If you are thinking about starting your fertility journey but are struggling with the complexities of treatment, our team can help explain our process, talk you through your treatment plans, and signpost support so you feel confident that this path to parenthood is right for you.

Why tailored support is important for fertility treatment?

At Manchester Fertility every treatment plan is personalised to you. Every patient at our clinic has a consultation with a fertility specialist, and our team will develop a tailored treatment plan based on this consultation and initial fertility testing. An important part of this planning is support. Depending on where you are up to with your fertility journey, our clinic has resources to help get you to the next stage of your journey. While your wider support network of family and friends can be invaluable during your treatment journey, having our expert team by your side allows you to benefit from our 35 years of experience creating families. The team can support you in many ways with our comprehensive range of services designed to help you before, during and after your treatment with us.

Supporting you to start your fertility journey

When deciding if treatment is right for you, our New Patient Coordinators are here to support you in feeling fully informed and making that decision. There are many ways you can contact the team, including requesting a callback if you have a specific question you would like to get an answer to, calling the clinic directly on 0161 300 2737 if you want to speak to the team about something more general, attending one of our clinic open days if you want to get a feel for the clinic where your treatment will be taking place, or you can book a 1-2-1 to discuss your individual circumstances and which treatment might be right for you in more depth.

The Manchester Fertility team supporting you to start your fertility journey

Keeping Fertility in mind during your treatment at Manchester Fertility

When you proceed with your treatment, you will be assigned a patient advisor who will be your point of contact throughout your journey. This person will help you access our wider network of support services, working with you and your consultant to offer you the very best support tailored to you. This support network includes our experienced fertility counsellors, expert fertility nurses, consultants, and external support partners.

Fertility Counsellors

Our experienced fertility counsellors are accredited by the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association). They are here to listen impartially and support you through the treatment journey as someone knowledgeable about your specific treatment but not directly involved. Our patients often say this support is invaluable to their treatment journey.

“I felt thoroughly supported throughout the process, from the initial consultation, to the counselling process, right through to treatment” – Manchester Fertility Patient

This flexible support can take place virtually or in person and is offered to everyone having treatment with us. You will be given the opportunity to talk to one of our specialist fertility counsellors in private and with a partner present, we would always recommend patients take this opportunity, however it is not mandatory unless you are having treatment with the help of a donor.

External support

Being at the cutting edge of reproductive technology, we are always looking for new ways that could help further support our patients. When you come for treatment with us, you can ask your patient advisor for recommendations based on what you need. There are lots of popular forms of alternative therapy that can help patients prioritise their mental health and well-being while trying to conceive.

We have partnered with the Aura fertility app, which provides additional support for patients to track their mental well-being throughout their journey and access even more personalised support and education on their path to parenthood. If you are already on your fertility journey with us and this seems like something you would be interested in, contact your dedicated patient advisor. who will help you to sign you up for this free additional service.

What support do we offer after your Manchester Fertility treatment?

After your treatment appointment, our Fertility Support Midwife will support you through the two-week wait to determine your treatment outcome and beyond. No matter the outcome of your treatment, we will always keep in touch with you throughout your path to parenthood. Our counsellors are still available for you, and patients with both positive and negative outcomes often book follow-up appointments to discuss any feelings that have arisen during treatment.

No matter where you are on your fertility journey, our expert team is here to help. We will do everything we can to support your well-being while having treatment with us. If you are a current patient, contact your patient advisor on 0161 300 2730 for more information, or if you are considering treatment with us, book a 1-2-1 with our friendly new patient team to discuss the support available in more detail.
