If you’re struggling to have a baby, or know that you need help to have a family through IVF or other treatments, you will no doubt have spent extensive hours researching your diagnosis or looking on forums for people who have been through similar experience.

The internet is a valuable source of support for those facing infertility or difficulties conceiving. Forums are filled with those on the same journey as you, and this can help you cope simply because you know you are not alone and can share your thoughts and feelings freely.

But it’s also very important to consider when looking online that although a person’s treatment journey may be similar to yours, your treatment path is unique and individual to you. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for you.

Everyone’s treatment protocol is different. You may need different doses of fertility drugs. A different approach to what could be considered ‘standard’ infertility treatment. There are all kinds of reasons why a person is having trouble conceiving, and whilst the treatment may appear to be similar, the medical history will not be.

Similarly, you may read about how a couple had success after failed cycles using an amazing new method, and naturally want the same. But these treatments which make the headlines are often scientifically unproven. They are considered experimental by the profession – but because it worked for one person, you assume it would work for you too.

We have what we call a ‘traffic light’ system when we see patients here at Manchester Fertility, to help you understand our approach – ‘green’ for treatments which are evidence-based and have tangible success, ‘amber’ for those which have limited benefits and ‘red’ for treatments which are experimental at best and are risky.

We do not offer experimental treatments at Manchester Fertility, or treatments which don’t have proven, evidence-based success. We don’t expect our patients to spend money on techniques which, in all likelihood, just won’t work.

When you come and see us for treatment, we will always be very clear with you about what your options are and the likely success for them, and will plan treatment for you always based on your unique, individual and personal diagnosis and circumstances. It’s why we are known for our patient-focused approach at Manchester Fertility. Your needs are paramount and it shapes everything we do as a team.
