Dad and son cuddling - ZyMot Advanced Sperm Selection at Manchester Fertility

ZyMot Advanced Sperm Selection

An optional add-on for your ICSI treatment cycle, ideal for patients with high DNA fragmentation.

What is ZyMot?

This alternate method of sperm preparation uses a sperm separation device (or sperm sorting chip) to prepare motile sperm from semen for use in fertility procedures.

Sperm preparation is used to separate good quality sperm from the dead sperm cells, debris and other cell types that are also present in a semen sample. This allows our embryologists to use the best possible sperm for your treatment.

How does the ZyMot device work?

The motile sperm cells select themselves by swimming through a special membrane inside the ZyMot device.

This video shows the science behind the ZyMot device and how it can be used to select healthy sperm, leaving the sperm with abnormal motility and morphology behind.

When is ZyMot recommended and why?

The highly motile sperm that make it through the ZyMot filter has been found to have lower levels of DNA fragmentation than when other methods of sperm separation are used. Therefore, you might want to use ZyMot sperm selection if you or your partner have had a SpermComet test that shows a high level of DNA damage.

As ZyMot is an advanced sperm selection technique for ICSI, using this add-on might also be right for you in select other ICSI cases. Our specialist consultants can advise if this is the right choice for you.

Lydia Ruddick, Principal Embryologist at Manchester Fertility

"ZyMot concentrates the best sperm available in your sample. Only the most progressive sperm can actively swim through the ZyMot device, leaving behind any debris and poorer quality sperm. Using ZyMot lets our team choose from the very best quality sperm available for your treatment."

Lydia Ruddick, Principal Embryologist

What are add-ons?

Add-ons are optional extras that we offer in addition to your normal fertility treatment; these may incur an additional cost. Some clinics may include specific add-ons with their treatment packages, while others charge separately. This add-on is an optional extra and is not included as part of your standard treatment plan. It can be paid for as an additional part of your treatment.

Your doctor will be able to provide you with the complete information and risks associated with add-ons. We offer add-ons after a discussion with our experts and after your specific individual circumstances have been considered.
