Reproductive technology has come a long way since 1978, when the world’s first ‘test-tube baby’ was born, and since 1985 when the UK welcomed the first baby through gestational surrogacy.

In the last decade alone, fertility techniques have advanced exponentially, as have the rates of successful treatment, with more than 8 million babies having been born worldwide through IVF and even more through alternative treatments, such as surrogacy.

At Manchester Fertility, we’re honoured to play such an active role in the fertility industry, not just as My Surrogacy Journey’s Centre of Excellence for the North West and Midlands, but as professionals in the fields embryology, andrology and fertility medicine.

Intended parents who choose us for their surrogacy treatment are guided through the process by expert doctors, specialist fertility nurses, and a team as welcoming as they are professional. We guarantee the highest quality of care, even behind the door of our state-of-the-art embryology laboratory.

With the ongoing development of AI technology, our laboratory is complete with specialist incubators that allow our team to examine your embryos at every stage of development, in addition to software that was developed to assign rankings to embryos based on analysis of time-lapse footage captured during incubation.

The incubator, named the EmbryoScope, allows our expert embryologists to manually inspect images of your embryos in development and examine ranks assigned by AI software to predict which embryo has the highest chances of successful implantation – increasing your chances exponentially since the days of traditional incubators.

Although it may sound a little complex, our team is using AI, in addition to their own experience, to reduce the risk of multiple pregnancies and repeat cycles by transferring only the highest-quality embryos. Meaning safer treatment for your surrogate and more precise embryo selection for you as an intended parent.

For those on the journey to parenthood in 2023, the process may look very different than it did decades ago. State-of-the-art systems and processes are quickly becoming the standard across UK clinics, and surrogacy is on the rise, with research published by My Surrogacy Journey in partnership with the University of Kent suggesting that the number of parents having a baby using a surrogate in England and Wales almost quadrupled in the last 10 years.

With technology constantly improving and new techniques being researched every day, the applications of AI and other aspects of reproductive technology within fertility are very exciting.

Rest assured that as an industry-leading clinic and surrogacy provider, the team here at Manchester Fertility will always strive to offer the latest fertility techniques and utilise AI to improve the effectiveness of our fertility treatments, to provide the best chance of success for intended parents.
