JOB TITLE: Embryology Practitioner
REPORTS TO: Principal/Senior Embryologists/Head of Laboratory

We have a varied caseload, including elective oocyte vitrification, PGT-A, and PGT-M. As a clinic, many of our cycles are carried out using donor gametes, which we utilise from our in-house egg bank or Semovo, our sister sperm bank.
We're looking for an Embryology Practitioner to begin their career with us, helping to deliver excellent care. For the right candidate, there is the possibility of training towards HCPC registration, either via in-service STP training in 2027 (subject to NSHCS approval) or STP equivalence.
The Embryology Practitioner will perform routine embryology procedures according to standard operating procedures and under the supervision of a HCPC Registered Clinical Embryologist. They will also support the Embryology team with administrative tasks and other general duties.

Key Responsibilities:
Embryology procedures performed under the supervision of a Clinical Scientist, after appropriate training
- Semen preparation for treatment (IUI, IVF and ICSI)
- Production of accurate reports
- Perform oocyte collections
- IVF inseminations
- Communicate with colleagues, patients, and members of the public in a polite, helpful, and positive manner.
General laboratory duties
- Participation in witnessing processes
- Preparation of paperwork for all treatment cycles
- Preparation of culture dishes for all treatment cycles
- Maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Laboratory cleaning and adherence to the unit’s standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control policy
- Ensuring traceability within the laboratory
- Reporting of any non-conformities to senior staff
- Assist in the daily clinical (laboratory work) and administrative activities within the Embryology laboratory and office
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and perform HFEA documentation within the required time periods
- Liaise effectively with the wider multi-disciplinary team
- Participate in the weekend Rota if required
FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
- Some knowledge of the legal requirements of providing an Assisted Conception Service (HFEA code of practice)
- Be aware of health and safety and COSHH legislation
SKILLS:
- Good basic laboratory skills
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to manage own time and prioritise workload
- Good teamworking skills

GENERAL BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant Life Sciences honours degree (at least 2.1 for progression to STP).
- Must have the right to work in the United Kingdom
Expected salary range £25,000-31,000 per annum
