Research

MFS is committed to research in reproductive medicine.  Research is an essential part of our efforts to make parenthood possible for more infertile couples.  Research broadens our knowledge of infertility and promotes new advances in one of the most dynamic branches of modern medicine.

Research at MFS is geared to producing higher live birth rates for our patients.  We specialise in studies on embryo development, aimed at improving methods in the laboratory, in partnership with the University of Manchester and Central Manchester NHS Trust.   We are also studying new methods of embryo selection, identifying biochemical markers of the best embryos to be replaced, together with colleagues at the University of York .   The ultimate aim of this research is to allow us to replace a single healthy embryo in each treatment cycle to avoid the risks of multiple pregnancy.  In a new development, MFS is now part of the UK Stem Cell Initiative, including the new North West Embryonic Stem Cell Centre based in Manchester , which is developing therapies to help patients with serious diseases such as diabetes.

Research has brought remarkable progress in helping infertile couples in recent years – and the future holds even greater promise.
