We’re proud to say that Manchester Fertility is one of the top sperm banks in the UK – and it’s thanks to the generosity of our donors.

Despite newspaper reports that banks across the North West and the UK are struggling to keep up with demand, sperm donor applications are at the highest level we’ve ever recorded.

As reported in the Daily Mirror and Manchester Evening News, sperm donor applications at from August 2014 to July 2015 are already 42% higher than for 2013/2014, with almost 1,000 men applying to become donors with us.

Our record figures contradict the belief that the removal of donor anonymity in 2005 caused donor applications to plummet. Under the law, donor-conceived people can apply to HFEA to find out who their sperm or egg donor is when they turn 18.

So why do so many men choose to donate to us? At Manchester Fertility, through our Manchesterdonors.com programme, we place great emphasis on the education, recruitment and retention of our donors.

In 2014 we became the first clinic in the UK to be awarded Centre of Excellence status by the National Gamete Donation Trust, the country’s leading egg, sperm and embryo donation services charity, in recognition of the ‘gold standard’ of care we give to donors at every stage of application.

We ensure that as a donor you fully understand the implications of the anonymity laws not just now but years into the future, so you, and your family, are prepared if a donor-conceived person does decide to find out who you are.

And we value and appreciate all the men who apply to us as donors. Giving the hope of a baby is the ultimate gift and being a donor takes considerable commitment. We believe all donors are very special people, and rightly deserve dignity, respect and thanks for what they do.

So if you’re considering becoming a sperm donor, why not apply to us? You must be aged 18-41, in good health with no serious hereditary or genetic disorders. All our sperm donors are fully screened according to HFEA standards, and receive £35 per donation in compensation for time and expenses.
