Did you know that men have a biological clock too? Although a man’s fertility doesn’t start to decline as early as a woman’s, sperm count and quality does decrease with age, particularly after the age of 40, making it harder to get pregnant.

Male fertility issues now account for almost half of IVF cycles carried out according to HFEA data.

At Manchester Fertility we are specialists in male fertility, helping many men become fathers through successful, proven treatments and techniques that overcome many forms of male infertility caused by sperm disorders:

Slow-moving sperm, poor sperm motility

IVF may be recommended if your sperm isn’t able to reach the egg as well as it should. Sperm is mixed with the egg in our laboratory, with fertilised eggs developed into embryos and transferred back into the uterus to grow.

Low sperm count, abnormal-shaped sperm, sperm DNA damage

If your sperm shows a particular issue –such as abnormal shape or high levels of DNA damage – ICSI, or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, may be advised. This is where a single, healthy sperm is selected by our expert Andrologists from your sample, and injected directly into the egg to fertilise it.

Very low sperm count

We may be able to build up enough of your sperm for treatment through a technique called MERC – Multiple Ejaculate Recovery and Cryopreservation. We take multiple samples and freeze all the collected sperm for use in ICSI treatment.

No sperm in sample or previous vasectomy

Some men don’t produce any sperm at all, due to a medical issue or previous vasectomy. We offer both reverse vasectomy reconstruction and a highly-specialised technique called Surgical Sperm Retrieval. This is where sperm may be able to be extracted from testicular tissue, and there are various techniques to maximise viable sperm dependent upon your individual diagnosis.

Using donor sperm

If you do need to use donor sperm to have a family, we can help. We can offer you quality donor sperm with no waiting list, from fully health-screened, UK-based donors. You’ll be given a choice of sperm donors from our extensive, nationwide Semovo sperm donor bank, supported by our dedicated Donation Team every step of the way.

Worried about male fertility problems? Get fertility tested

If you aren’t getting pregnant and are concerned sperm issues may be the cause, get fertility tested. Our Fertility MOT tests will identify if there’s a problem preventing natural conception in either of you – such as blocked fallopian tubes and ovulatory problems or issues such as low sperm count, slow moving sperm or abnormally-shaped sperm.

We can also test for sperm DNA damage - one of the most common causes of unexplained infertility – through the SpermComet test.

If an issue is found, we’ll suggest the treatment path that gives you the highest chance of pregnancy, with all treatment plans transparently and fully-costed at the outset. Funding plans may also be an option for you, including a money-back guarantee if you don’t have baby.
