Fertility regulator the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) is becoming ‘increasingly concerned’ about the number of private IVF clinics in the UK who are offering experimental add-on treatments, according to news reports.

Concerns are focused on techniques and various ‘add-on’ treatments being offered that have no strong evidence base. The HFEA is now planning to take action to ensure patients can access accurate information.

So how can you be sure that any additional IVF treatment options you’re offered by your private IVF clinic will actually help you? At Manchester Fertility our policy has always been to focus on evidence-based treatments and techniques that are proven to work.

We only invest in those treatments and additional techniques that have tangible scientifically proven results. These include the use of EmbryoGlue, included at no cost for all embryo transfers and time-lapse EmbryoScope monitoring for embryo selection.

As for IVF ‘breakthroughs’, although many of our fertility consultants are active in the field of IVF and infertility research and development, we do not rush to adopt any new IVF ‘breakthroughs’ until they have been fully and clinically tested.

We do not promote experimental treatments that we feel only have either no chance of success in the vast majority of cases, or very limited success for very small numbers of people.

At Manchester Fertility you can be reassured that any additional help, techniques or treatments will only be offered to you as part of your IVF treatment if your individual diagnosis shows that you can benefit and it is worthwhile – because what may help one person, may not work for you.

Any optional treatments and techniques that are offered will always be explained transparently, in an easy to understand way, including full cost implications and likely effectiveness. So you can be confident of making an informed choice.
