There has been a lot in the press lately about fertility testing, IVF and older mums.

A Dutch study revealed how early you have to start trying to have a baby if you want a big family. A study in Israel showed us that women there are delaying having children, because of the country’s free IVF. Whilst here in the UK, a gynaecologist and fertility expert is urging all women to have fertility checks at 25 and even to consider egg-freezing by age 30.

It’s easy to get confused with so many news headlines, statistics and opinion. Should you have a fertility check? How do you know if you can delay having a baby? Can you afford to wait?

A fertility check is a good idea if you want to know how fertile you are now. Many people come to us for a Fertility MOT because they’re not ready for children yet, but want the reassurance of knowing that there’s no medical reason they can’t conceive naturally in future.

Others have a Fertility MOT with us if they have been trying for a baby for a while but haven’t become pregnant yet, whilst others have a fertility check and then decide to freeze their eggs, ready for when they want to use them in future.

The results of your fertility tests are all about ensuring you know as much as possible about your own fertility, helping you make informed decisions about how and when to have a baby.

Our consultants will discuss your results with you and if a fertility problem is identified, ways to overcome this through latest treatments and techniques. We can explain to you your individual chances of success using frozen eggs if fertility preservation is something you’re interested in, so you can decide if it’s a viable option for you.

Our Fertility MOT tests are available either singularly or as a couple. Female testing will tell you whether you have a good number of eggs, if your hormone levels are right to support conception and pregnancy, and if your reproductive system is clear with no issues that would prevent natural conception.

For males, the tests confirm if you have a healthy sperm count, and that there are no issues with sperm shape and mobility that would make natural conception difficult.

There’s no need to get a referral from your GP for Fertility MOT checks. You can simply make an appointment with no waiting list. Call our friendly Patient Advisors on 0161 300 2737 for more information.
