The freezing of embryos allows couples to use all the embryos created by IVF. The technique helps to reduce the number of times the ovaries are stimulated and eggs recovered. It allows couples to space their family and reduces the risk of a multiple pregnancy and is medically important for women who are at a risk of ovarian hyperstimulation.
Fresh embryos appear to have a higher success rate than frozen but our success rate using frozen embryos has remained consistent over the past four years with a 20% success rate. We have recently concentrated a great deal of our research efforts into ways of identifying the very best embryos available and this is reflected in the steady increase in success.
