FERTILITY MOT AT MFS

All the investigations and consultations take place in our new and purpose designed unit by experienced senior nurses and consultants.

You can refer yourself by contacting MFS directly on 0161 227 0010.  An initial appointment will be made for you to attend the unit.  The fertility check up includes the following investigations:

Female Tests

Anti-Mullerian Hormone (provides a good estimate of the number of eggs in the ovary)

Urine sample for Chlamydia

Rubella (checking immunity against German measles)

Male Tests

Semen analysis

Urine sample for Chlamydia

The results of these investigations will be discussed at your second appointment with the consultant  2-3 weeks later.  This consultation will last approximately 60 minutes and will include:

Transvaginal ultrasound scan of your womb and ovaries

**HyCoSy test (if appropriate) to check if your fallopian tubes are open or blocked

Discussion of the blood test results and semen analysis

Expert advice if required on the most appropriate fertility treatment

HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo Contrast Sonography)

HyCoSy is a non-invasive ultrasound procedure usually performed before day 12 of your cycle.  It takes approximately 15-20 minutes and involves passing a thin catheter through the cervix and into the womb.  A special fluid that can be seen on the scan is injected through the catheter and its passage through the womb and fallopian tubes is observed.  It is a good idea to take some form of analgesia prior to the procedure, eg Paracetamol.  To reduce the risk of infection you will be prescribed a course of antibiotics.  The HyCoSy is not appropriate for some women, eg if you have had a history of pelvic inflammatory disease or previous tubal surgery.
