The journey to parenthood varies for everyone. IVF with donor eggs is a treatment used by many patients and intended parents hoping for the chance to experience the joys of parenthood.
IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) with donor eggs is a fertility treatment used to assist individuals or couples who are experiencing infertility, have medical or genetic conditions affecting egg quality or production, or are unable to conceive using their own eggs.
The process is similar to a standard IVF cycle, but instead uses eggs from a carefully selected donor. These eggs are fertilised with partner/donor sperm to create embryos, which are then transferred into the recipients uterus.
At Manchester Fertility, we bring over 40 years of experience in helping people build families through egg donation. We are one of the few clinics in the UK to offer our own dedicated egg donor programme. By managing this programme in-house, we do not charge any donor search/transport fees helping to make treatment more accessible and cost-effective for our patients.
We offer a diverse selection of donors through our frozen donor egg bank, with minimal waiting times, allowing you to begin treatment sooner. We only offer you egg donor profiles once those eggs have been frozen and in quarantine for three months, so they are ready to use in treatment
Our personalised approach ensures that you are supported at every stage of your journey. You will have a dedicated member of our team guiding you throughout your treatment, providing expert care, clear communication, and ongoing support.
Treatment begins with some initial tests; these include some blood tests and an ultrasound scan. This will be followed by an initial consultation with a fertility consultant. Your fertility consultant will discuss your medical history to make sure that there are no existing factors that could affect the treatment outcome as well as putting a treatment plan in place for you.
All patients using donor eggs are required to have counselling. Our experienced and friendly counsellors will talk you through all of the implications of using an egg donors, so you can make an informed decision and give your consent to treatment.
Our bespoke egg donor matching service is designed around your individual preferences. Our Donation Team will carefully select and share donor profiles from our UK egg donor programme that closely match your criteria and what is important to you, giving you access to only suitable donors.
When you are ready to start treatment, you will call the clinic to request. You will then start medication which will prepare your uterus for pregnancy. When you are ready, the frozen donor eggs are thawed and prepared for fertilisation by our expert lab team.
A sample of either partner sperm or donor sperm is prepared. Donor eggs are inseminated via Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), which involves injecting a single healthy sperm into each egg.
We monitor the donor eggs for signs of fertilisation. This usually occurs 16-18 hours after insemination.
The created embryos are placed in an incubator where they grow in the lab for the next two to five days. Our embryologists keep you updated on the progress of your embryos and advise when your embryo transfer will take place.
The embryo chosen by our embryologists is transferred under ultrasound guidance into your uterus by one of our fertility consultants, in our specially-designed embryo transfer room.
Any remaining embryos created from frozen donor eggs can be frozen and stored for future use.
You can take a home pregnancy test around two weeks after your embryo transfer. During this time, you will be supported by our midwife team. If your test is positive, you will be booked for your pregnancy confirmation scan at 7 weeks of pregnancy.

Choosing your egg donor is one of the biggest and most important decisions to make. Our Donation Team are here to help. First, tell us what characteristics you would like your egg donor to have, such as physical appearance, ethnicity, or any other preferences that are important to you, and we then search our UK egg donor programme for suitable matches.
You will be sent the donors profile which includes their physical characteristics, a pen picture and a goodwill message. The pen picture is non-identifying information which is written by the donor, this may include information about their childhood, their family, their job, their personality etc so you can get a feel for the type of person they are. The goodwill message is a message that the donor writes to the donor conceived child.
All these details are provided to help you make a confident and informed choice. We also know our donors well as we support them through our donor programme, so can give you additional and useful personal insight.
Counselling helps you feel prepared for the future. Counselling is all about supporting and helping you, and it is a very valued and vital part of treatment for people using donor eggs.
Counselling is mandatory for donor treatment because there are all kinds of things you need to think about when considering using an egg donor to conceive. Things such as how you might tell your child in future that they are donor-conceived, what information they are entitled to if they wish to contact their donor in the future, and what rights you have as a parent.
We guarantee a minimum of eight frozen eggs from your chosen donor for your treatment cycle. The eggs we provide are of the highest quality for your best chance of pregnancy.
We recommend that patients are eligible for treatment involving the creation of new embryos using donor eggs up to the age of 53.
Patients may also use embryos that were created and frozen before the age of 53 for treatment up to the age of 55.
Please note that if you are over 50, we will require some additional tests to be carried out before you commence treatment.
Our donor profiles include:
Donor profiles do not contain anything that identifies your donor, as your donor is anonymous to you.
If your treatment is successful, you can also find out if your donor has helped anyone else to have a family and if your child has any donor siblings, via the HFEA.
